KLONDIKE KATE'S SALOON & RESTAURANT
Klondike Kate's Saloon and Restaurant is one of the oldest businesses on Newark's Main Street. The original building at this location was a log structure that dated back to 1739, when it was known as "The Three Hearts Tavern". This tavern lasted until 1797, when it was replaced by "The Hosinger Tavern" which in 1860 was replaced by "The Newark Hotel". In 1880, the log structure was torn down and replaced by the present structure that features the characteristic Mansard Style Roof. It was then known as the "Exchange Building". Since then the building has housed a variety of facilities, most notably a courthouse and a jail cell, administered by Squire Lovett, a J.P., between 1905 and 1915. The cell stll exists today.
