ST. THOMAS' EPISCOPAL CHURCH
Located at the corner of Delaware Avenue and Elkton Road, this church is one of the oldest landmarks of Newark. It was built in 1843 and served its congregation until 1956 when the congregation moved to its present location on South College Avenue. From 1956 to 1974, it was the home of the Newark Library, and from 1974, the building remained virtually unoccupied until 1996, when it was acquired and subsequently restored by the University of Delaware. Today, the building is known as the The Bayard Sharp Hall, and its function is mainly that of a recital hall for the university's music department.
