GLASGOW HIGH SCHOOL, Glasgow DE, '02

This high school, opened in 1973, is the last of the three high schools to be built in the Christina School District. Located on Delaware Route 896 near U.S. Route 40, it is central to an area that was first settled be the Welsh in 1701. Also it is in close proximity to Iron Hill, where American Indians lived at the time of William Penn's acquisition of the land. and 1/4 mile from Cooch's Bridge, where in 1777 the American Patriots battled the Red Coats. It was at the latter site that Betsy Ross's American Flag flew for the first time. Glasgow High derives its name from the surrounding area which was named by its Scottish settlers, who followed the Welsh, in honor of their city in Scotland. The Red Dragon, the school's mascot, is the official emblem of the Welsh.
