CHRISTIANA HIGH SCHOOL, Christiana DE, 2002

Christiana High School, located on Salem-Church Road, was built in 1963. Named in honor of the area’s Swedish and colonial heritage, it was initially designated as a senior high school for grades 10 through 12 students. The following year, a new building was built adjacent to it for the junior high (or 9th grade students). In 1970, the Junior High School became part of Christiana High School, thus creating a two-building campus. The original building housed Math, Science, Business Dd., Foreign Language and Industrial Arts classrooms and was named “The General Building,” while the former Junior High School building became “The Humanities Building,” dedicated to Language Arts, Social Studies and some Science and Industrial Arts Classes. In 1983, Christiana was selected by the U.S. Department of Education as one of he nation’s model schools for its innovative educational program. Christiana, nicknamed “The Vikings,” has for its school colors red, blue and silver.
