ST. JOHN'S AUMP CHURCH
Located on New London Road and Cleveland Avenue, this church was established in 1848 as a branch of First indepndent denomination of Black Christians (formerly called African Union First Colored Methodist Protestant Church). This denomination was founded by Peter Spencer, a freed black slave in 1813. Over the years the building has evolved from a log cabin to the brick and block structure that it is today, and the congregation has grown several fold.
