STONE BALLOON
Located on Main Street, this building was built in 1826 on the site previously occupied by the first market established in Newark in the mid 1700's. The building was initially known as the Washington House, then one of Newark's better hotels. Later, this hotel was operated by the late baseball hall-of-famer Vic Willis and his family until 1947, when the name was changed to Stone Baloon. Today, the building houses a popular night club among college students, mainly from the University of Delaware, and is a frequent venue of many famous entertainers.
